Dr Hans Mathew

After completing medical training (MBBS) and postgraduate studies (MD – Anesthesia) in Bangalore, India, Dr. Hans Mathew joined High Wycombe Hospital in 1996. He further obtained a Diploma in Anaesthesia (DA) from the Royal College of Anaesthetists, London, a Fellowship in Anaesthesia (FFARCSI), and a Membership of the Faculty of Pain Medicine (MFPMRCA) at the Royal College of Anaesthetists. He was an Honorary Senior Lecturer at Bucks New University.

He developed an interest in Western Medical Acupuncture as part of chronic pain management and introduced it to the chronic pain clinic at Buckinghamshire NHS Trust. He is a fully accredited member (DipMedAc) of the British Medical Acupuncture Society and ex-director of the BMAS Council.

Dr Hans Mathew has been practising acupuncture for many years, has published many articles, and has presented many lectures in pain medicine, anaesthesia, and acupuncture.

Best Acupuncture Clinic!

Wondering if acupuncture is worth the money? Don’t think twice! I had a serious neck and shoulder problem after several unfortunate incidents. I’ve tried painkillers, physiotherapy, ultrasounds, but nothing really worked. Not to mention I couldn’t sleep and had to stop my activity completely. From the beginning of this year, I have been seen by Dr. Hans Mathew several times. First, he described each step and the benefits of the treatment and made sure I’m comfortable. Being a little nervous around the needles, I found it very reassuring. Next, we’ve started a 10-session treatment that lasted over 2 months. I’ve heard that medical acupuncture really works, but I certainly didn’t expect such a significant effect – my issues started improving almost immediately. Now I see Dr. Hans once a month to still benefit from the electro-acupuncture that works for me as stress relief. I can’t recommend Dr. Hans Mathew enough; he’s highly qualified and fully patient-focused!

If you are considering this treatment for the first time, just do it.

I came to Dr Hans with a long standing, constantly painful elbow condition caused by repetitive usage as a carpenter. We're talking years of pain coming and going and certain movements being excruciating. Accupuncture felt like an 'alternative' treatment which I thought I'd give a go as nothing else worked. I wish I'd tried it years go, after the first session the pain was 90% gone, now I just need to manage the condition, do some physio and stay on top of it.

I’m really happy with the treatment Dr Hans has done on my lower back. I was actual sceptical about acupuncture but after the 3rd session I honestly felt a difference. I would definitely recommend sticking with it.

I have suffered with neck pain for almost 20 years and have tried many treatments with very little success. I had become resigned to the fact that I would just have to live with this pain and take strong painkillers for the rest of my life. However, after 6 weekly sessions of electro-acupuncture with Dr Hans Mathew I am almost pain free and need very little medication. I now see Hans once a month and I cannot recommend him highly enough.

I went to Dr. Hans for insomnia issues after my husband had acupuncture with him for several different issues with great success. Since June, I was in so much pain and stress due to frozen shoulder. I was asked to take 3 steroid injections on my shoulder, which made me feel so anxious. I met Dr Hans Matthew through a surgeon recommendation to give a try. I was amazed by his assessment by seeing my movements. He starts the treatment only after his assessment. Within 2 sessions, my pain got reduced. Now after 5 sessions, I’m able do my physio shoulder strengthening without any pain. I’m so glad that I met him in the right time and went through more natural process.

Dr Mathew has helped me greatly to fix the pains my GP was not able to help with. It is great to use an acupuncture expert who is also medically trained and can combine his knowledge of western medicine and acupuncture to make the best of dealing with my pain issues. Life changing! My severe back pain meant that I had been prescribed strong medication and was regularly visiting osteopaths/chiropractors but I still struggled with my mobility and daily life. Immediately following my first appointment, my pain had reduced so much that I was able to cut my medication intake dramatically, and following my third visit, I no longer needed the painkillers that I had previously depended upon.

The best acupuncturist in the area. Dr. Matthew Hans is extremely knowledgeable and has truly changed my life. After a breast cancer diagnosis, my hot flushes were unbearable and with Dr. Matthew's expertise and guidance i'm hardly suffering with them at all now. Dr Mathews has been fantastic from start to finish with me. Fixing not only my muscles with a great deal of care and knowledge but also helping no end with anxiety which had built up during the year.

I attended Wycombe Medical Acupuncture pain clinic with Dr Hans Mathew following post covid ICU hospitalisation. Dr Hans carried a series of acupuncture sessions to provide pain relief to my shoulders and feet and now I am free from any pain.
